Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Rates for about 30 major currencies are the official daily reference rates of the European Central Bank. Other currencies come from Exchange Rate API and are converted through the ECB euro rate. The page shows the date of the rates in use.

How often are the rates updated?

Once a day. The European Central Bank publishes its reference rates around 16:00 Central European Time on working days, and the converter refreshes several times a day to pick them up. Rates do not change at weekends.

Why is my bank’s rate different?

These are mid-market reference rates: the midpoint between buying and selling prices. Banks, card providers and money transfer services add a margin or fee, so the rate you get is usually a little worse. Compare their rate with this one to see how much you pay.

Can I use these rates for invoices and accounts?

They are a good guide for quotes and invoices in another currency. For tax and accounting, check which rate your tax authority requires; many accept the central bank rate on the invoice date.
