Colours, size and error correction

Error correction

Higher correction still scans when part of the code is damaged or covered by a logo, but makes it denser.

PNG size

Your QR code appears here as you type.

Static QR code: it never expires and works without OZO. Test-scan it before printing.

How to make a QR code

  1. 1

    Choose what it does

Pick a link, Wi-Fi network, contact card, email, phone call, SMS or plain text.

  2. 2

    Fill in the details

Type the link or details. The QR code updates as you type, and nothing leaves your device.

  3. 3

    Style it

Optionally change the colours, make the background transparent or raise error correction.

  4. 4

    Download and test

Download a PNG for screens and documents or an SVG for print, then scan it with your phone before you print.

Static QR codes, free and private

Many QR generators make "dynamic" codes that redirect through their servers, and stop working when a trial ends. OZO makes static codes: the link or details are stored in the code itself. They never expire, need no account, and work offline. Everything is generated in your browser, so Wi-Fi passwords and contact details stay on your device.

Ideas for using QR codes

  • Restaurants and shops: link to your menu, booking page or reviews.
  • Offices and rentals: a Wi-Fi code by the door, so guests join without asking.
  • Business cards: a contact code that saves your details straight to someone's phone.
  • Invoices and receipts: link to your payment page or website. Add it next to your details on an invoice.

Print checklist

  1. Make it at least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in); larger if people scan from a distance.
  2. Keep a quiet margin around the code.
  3. Use the SVG for print, so the edges stay crisp.
  4. Test-scan with two different phones before printing in bulk.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. They are static QR codes: the information is stored in the pattern itself, so they work forever and don’t depend on OZO or any redirect service.

How do I make a QR code for Wi-Fi?

Choose Wi-Fi, enter the network name and password, and pick the security type (most networks use WPA). Guests scan the code and join without typing the password. The password never leaves your browser.

PNG or SVG?

PNG is best for websites, documents and social posts. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which makes it best for print: menus, posters, packaging and business cards.

Can I change the colours?

Yes, but keep a dark code on a light background with strong contrast, or some phones won’t scan it. OZO warns you when the contrast is too low.

What is error correction?

Extra data that lets a QR code scan even when part of it is damaged, dirty or covered. Medium suits most uses; choose High or Highest for codes printed outdoors or with a logo placed over them.
