Add your business and the customer

Enter your details and the customer’s, plus a ship-to address if delivery goes somewhere else.

  2. 2

    Reference their PO

If the customer sent a purchase order, enter its number so both sides can match the paperwork.

What is a sales order?

A sales order turns a customer's request into a confirmed order. It sets out exactly what you will deliver, when and at what price, so there are no surprises when the goods arrive or the invoice follows. For wholesalers, manufacturers and online sellers it is the starting point for picking, packing and billing.

What to include

  • Your details, the customer's and the ship-to address.
  • The customer's PO number, if they sent one.
  • Items with SKU, quantity and unit price, plus tax, shipping and the order total.
  • Expected delivery date, shipping method and payment terms.
  • Terms for changes, cancellations and returns.

From order to invoice

A customer sends a purchase order. You confirm it with a sales order. You ship with a packing slip and bill with an invoice. OZO carries the details through each step.

A sales order often follows an accepted price quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is a sales order?

A sales order is a document a seller issues to confirm a customer’s order: the items, quantities, prices, delivery date and terms. It is the seller’s internal and external record that the order has been accepted.

What is the difference between a sales order and a purchase order?

A purchase order is created by the buyer to place an order. A sales order is created by the seller to confirm it. They describe the same deal from opposite sides, which is why the sales order usually quotes the customer’s PO number.

Is a sales order the same as an invoice?

No. A sales order confirms what will be delivered; an invoice asks for payment once it has been. Convert a fulfilled sales order into an invoice in one click, without retyping.

Can I create a packing slip from a sales order?

Yes. Choose “Create packing slip” and OZO copies the customer, ship-to address and items, fills in the order number and leaves prices off.

Is the sales order generator free?

Yes. Create and download sales orders for free, with no signup and no limits.
