How to split a PDF

  1. 1

    Add your PDF

Choose a PDF or drop it on the box. It opens in your browser and is never uploaded.

  2. 2

    Choose the pages

Type page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, or split the whole file every few pages. Each range becomes its own PDF.

  3. 3

    Split and download

Press Split, then download each part, or all of them together in one ZIP file.

Take out only the pages you need

Send one page of a long report, separate a scanned batch into single documents, or cut a big file into parts that fit an email limit. Splitting copies the pages exactly as they are, so text stays sharp and searchable.

Good to know

  • The original file is never changed. You always get new files to download.
  • Want the parts back together? Join them again with Merge PDF.
  • Still too big for email? Shrink a part with the PDF compressor.
  • Need pictures instead of pages? Turn pages into images with PDF to JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF sent to a server when I split it?

No. The file is opened and split by your own browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so private documents stay private.

How do I write the page ranges?

Use a dash for a range and a comma between ranges, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. That gives three PDFs: pages 1 to 3, page 5 on its own, and pages 8 to 10. If a number is wrong, a message tells you which page does not exist.

How do I pull out just one page?

Type that page number on its own, for example 7. You get a one-page PDF named after the original file, such as report-page-7.pdf.

What does splitting every N pages do?

It cuts the file into equal parts. A 10-page file split every 4 pages gives three PDFs: pages 1 to 4, 5 to 8, and 9 to 10. The last part holds whatever is left over.

Why can’t it open my PDF?

A PDF locked with a password cannot be changed here, so remove the password in the program that made it first. A damaged file, or a file that is not really a PDF, cannot be read either.
